Frequently Asked Questions
- What meal plans does GW Dining offer?
Please visit our Meal Plans webpage for all information on our available mela plan options.
- What is a swipe?
A swipe is the primary on-campus fund that comes with your GW Dining Meal Plan. A swipe can be used to either grant you entry into one of our three all-you-care-to-eat dining halls or to purchase a Meal Deal from a quick-service retail location.
Things to note:
- Swipes do not rollover to future semesters. Any you have remaining on your account will expire at the end of each semester.
- A swipe is not equivalent to any particular dollar value. A swipe is simply equivalent to one on-campus meal.
- What are Dining Dollars?
Dining dollars are declining balance funds that come with your GW Dining Meal Plan. Dining dollars are stored on your GWorld ID card and can be used to purchase food both on- and off-campus. These funds work as a dollar to dollar equivalent - therefore in the scenario a student purchases a $5 food item, they will have $5 deducted from their dining dollar balance.
Things to note:
- On-campus purchases with dining dollars are tax free.
- Dining dollars do rollover to future semesters.
- You always have the ability to add more dining dollars if needed throughout the semester using the GET App.
- These funds can only be used to purchase food.
- What is the difference between Dining Dollars and Campus Cash?
Dining Dollars are affiliated with GW Dining Meal Plans and are stored money (1 Dining Dollar is equal to $1 cash dollar) on your GWorld Card. Dining Dollars can be used to purchase food both on- and off-campus. Dining Dollars cannot be used for any other retail or service purchases.
Campus Cash is dual purpose. While Campus Cash can also be used at participating Off-Campus Dining Partners, these funds are primarily spent on laundry, printing, vending, parking, and shopping at the GW Campus Store.
- How can I add more Dining Dollars to my meal plan? How can I manage my Dining Dollars balance?
Use the GET App to add additional funds and manage your GWorld Dining Dollars account.
Here is how to get started:
Once downloaded, select George Washington University as your institution.
Enter your username (i.e. your GW email), create a password and a custom 4-digit pin that will be used within the app.
Once in the app, you can check your balance on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. You can also use the app to add more Dining Dollars to your account anytime you want.
- What is a Meal Deal?
A Meal Deal is a pre-set combo which typically includes one entree, side, and drink. Students can only utilize a meal swipe at our on-campus quick-service locations when purchasing a complete Meal Deal. If students purchase items which are not included in a Meal Deal or do not purchase a complete Meal Deal, only dining dollars, debit/credit, and cash will be accepted for payment.
- What is a Flex Meal?
A Flex Meal is a specialty swipe option that is only available to students enrolled in the All Access, Vern All Access, or Revolutionary 85 Meal Plans.
Each week (Sunday - Saturday), students with Flex Meals have the ability to use one swipe at the following locations:
- Chick-fil-A
- Panda Express
- District House Market (Market Bundle Deals)
The one swipe allotment at each location will reset each Sunday at midnight. Flex Meals do not carry over into future weeks if they are not used.

- I have a food allergy and/or special dietary need. What are my options?
Our dining program offers a wide variety of allergen-friendly option and can accommodate a multitude of special dietary restrictions.
We have an open policy with our recipes and encourage all students to review our allergen and ingredient information online before dining to ensure your safety and satisfaction. Diners are also always welcome to request to view the physical product labels of any food items that are used within our recipes.
If you have a food allergy or intolerance and you are dining in any of our on-campus dining halls, be sure to take the following precautions if you are worried about cross-contact. Ask the GW Dining associate handling your food to:
- Wash their hands and change their gloves.
- Use a designated utensil for your meal.
- Serve your menu items from the back of the house that have yet come in contact with the serving bar.
To learn more, please review our Dietary Support page.
- What are OZZI containers? How do I use them?
OZZI containers are the reusable to-go container option at all-you-care-to-eat dining halls. You will pay a $5 deposit to receive a token, acquire a to-go box in exchange for your token at the dining hall front cash register, and simply fill the container with food from the line. Then when you are finished, you can bring the used container back, dispense it into one of the OZZI receptacle bins and get a token in return to start the cycle all over again.
GW Dining staff will take care of cleaning the used containers to ensure they are ready for the next guest.
- What happens to my $5 deposit to get an OZZI token?
To get started with the OZZI program, you will pay a $5 deposit to receive a token, receive a to-go box in exchange for your token at the front cash register, and simply fill the container with food from the line. This deposit can be paid using Dining Dollars or Campus Cash. Then when you are finished, you can bring the soiled container back, dispense it into one of the OZZI receptacle bins and get a token in return to start the cycle all over again.
If you return your token to the GW Dining office, you will receive a refund of $5 dining dollars or Campus Cash to your account. Essentially, it would be as if you paid $0 to be a part of the program. However, if you lose your token or reusable container, you will be required to place another $5 dining dollar deposit in order to get a new token to be re-entered into the cycle.
