Meal Plans

At GW, we believe access to nutritious, high-quality food is essential to the success and well-being of our students and great campus community. We are stedfast in our mission to provide convenient, balanced, and affordable dining options to all meal plan participants. By enrolling in a GW Dining meal plan, students no longer need to worry about budgeting, shopping for groceries, or preparing their own meals. Rather, all they need to think about is which dining location they want to go to.

2025-2026 Meal Plans

Based on student feedback, we are proud to introduce new 'Build-Your-Own' Block Plans to provide second-year students and above more opportunities for personal customization.

The meal plan options you have to select from is determined by class year eligibility. Find out which options are available to you by clicking into the tab that corresponds with your class year below.

 Frequently Asked Questions

Who can purchase a Meal Plan?

GW Meal Plans are available for purchase by any registered GW student including undergraduates, graduates, law, medical and doctoral students.

All undergraduate students living in GW’s residence halls are required to purchase a Meal Plan.

How do I choose a Meal Plan?

Residential Students, who will be living on campus during the academic year, will choose their required plan at the same time they register for housing. These students can select from any of the meal plans available to their respective class year.

Nonresidential Students can add a voluntary plan to their account at any time. Please reach out to GW Dining via email or phone to inquire about the current process for enrolling in a voluntary meal plan.

How do I use my Meal Plan?

Your meal plan of choice is loaded onto your GWID card at the beginning of each semester. You will use this card to gain entry into the dining halls and present it at checkout when dining with one of our Off-Campus Dining Partners.

Download the GET App to check your remaining balance and add additional funds self-service.

What is a swipe?

A swipe is the primary on-campus fund that comes with your GW Dining Meal Plan. A swipe can be used to either grant you entry into one of our three all-you-care-to-eat dining halls or to purchase a Meal Deal from a quick-service retail location.

Things to note:

  • Swipes do not carry over between semesters.
  • A swipe is not equivalent to any particular dollar value. A swipe is simply equivalent to one on-campus meal.
What are Dining Dollars?

Dining dollars are declining balance funds that come with your GW Dining Meal Plan. Dining dollars are stored on your GWorld ID card and can be used to purchase food both on- and off-campus. These funds work as a dollar to dollar equivalent - therefore in the scenario a student purchases a $5 food item, they will have $5 deducted from their dining dollar balance.

Things to note:

  • Dining Dollars do carry over between semesters, and will remain on a student’s account until they graduate or leave the university.
  • Purchases made with dining dollars at all GW Dining locations are tax free.
  • You can manage your Dining Dollar balance, including checking your balance and adding more funds whenever needed, through the GET App.
  • Dining Dollars are accepted at over 50 Off-Campus Dining Partner locations. These funds can only be used to purchase food.
What are Flex Meals?

Flex Meals allow students enrolled in the All Access, Vern All Access, and Revolutionary 85 Meal Plans to use a swipe at dining locations that will only accept Dining Dollars otherwise.

Each week (Sunday - Saturday), eligible students are alotted three total Flex Meals. They are able to use one Flex Meal per week at the following locations:

  • Chick-fil-A
  • Panda Express
  • District House Market (Market Bundle Deals)

The one swipe allotment at each location will reset each Sunday at 12am. Flex Meals do not carry over into future weeks if they are not used.

How can I change my Meal Plan?

Each semester, students have the opportunity to change their meal plan if they believe another option will better suit their schedule and eating habits.

The deadline for residential students to request a change to their meal plan is a week (5 business days) into the semester. After that date passes, no changes can be made.

  • The deadline for Fall 2025 meal plan changes was September 1, 2025.
  • The deadline for Spring 2026 meal plan changes is January 19, 2026.

For those who would like to change their Spring 2026 meal plan, please review our instructions webpage.
